In January, a door plug issue on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9 led to increased scrutiny and a second grounding order from the FAA. 💲1.44 billion! 💵 The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Loan Programs Office (LPO) US announced on 16th October a conditional commitment for a loan guarantee of up to $1.44 billion to Montana Renewables, LLC (Montana Renewables, or MRL). The loan guarantee, if finalized, will help finance the expansion of a renewable fuels facility in Great Falls, Montana. 🏭 This project is expected to create, at its peak, 450 construction jobs and up to 40 new operations jobs. 💼 The MRL facility has been in operation since late 2022, currently producing about 140 million gallons per year of biofuels, most of which is renewable diesel. If finalized, the loan guarantee would fund facility expansion to produce about 315 million gallons per year of biofuels, most of which will be SAF. Valitera is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 4AIR. This MoU signifies the beginning of a strategic exploration into a long-term partnership to supply Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and its associated environmental attributes (SAFc). This partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of SAF in the aviation sector, helping to decarbonize operations and achieve near and long-term net zero goals. The partnership will focus on ensuring a reliable and scalable supply of SAF and SAFc to aviation clients worldwide, contributing to industry-wide efforts to scale this industry. In 2023, SAF represented 0.11% of the aviation sector’s fuel consumption, up from 0.06% in 2022 (IAG). Although the SAF industry is experiencing rapid growth, its usage in 2024 remains below 1% (IATA). While government-level policies and incentives are essential for stimulating industry advancement, private sector collaboration undoubtedly plays a key role in addressing the challenges ahead, helping to bridge the gap between supply and demand. "Startup Fervo Energy will supply 320 MW of clean, firm power to Southern California Edison from an enhanced geothermal plant under construction in Utah. The geothermal startup uses oil-and-gas drilling techniques to tap heat from deep underground.
